Dermaplaning

Dermaplaning

What is Dermaplaning and am I the right candidate?

Dermaplaning is a safe and effective way to exfoliate the skin by removing dead skin cells and vellus hair from the surface of the skin. It is safe for all skin types; however, we do not recommend Dermaplaning for anyone experiencing active acne breakouts. This treatment is also great for any patient looking for hair removal that isn't candidates for laser hair removal (i.e. patients with light-colored or blonde hair on upper lip or face).

What are the benefits of Dermaplaning and how does it work?

Our Aesthetician's use a sterile, surgical scalpel to gently "shave" the skin's surface to remove the top-most layer of dead skin along with fine, vellus hair. Dermaplaning is used to reduce the appearance of fine lines, hyperpigmentation, dullness, and skin imperfections. It can also be combined with a chemical peel immediately after (we call this combination treatment Micropeel).

How many treatments will I need?

Dermaplaning can be done every 4-8 weeks depending on how fast or slow the patient's vellus hair returns.

What type of results will I see?

Since the vellus hairs are removed, patients will experience a smooth and soft complexion and temporary hair removal.

Is there any downtime associated with this procedure?

Most patients will have no actual downtime, besides possible slight redness immediately after the treatment. Makeup can be applied immediately after, but we recommend avoiding exercise for 24 hours after any exfoliation treatments.

What other treatments/procedures can Dermaplaning be combined with?

Depending on the patient's concern or overall goals, this treatment is great combined with various anti-aging, anti-acne and hyperpigmentation therapies as well as tightening and injectable procedures. Some of our patients will even schedule a dermaplaning procedure directly before Botox or fillers. Patients can also see dramatic improvement alternating dermaplaning with DermalInfusion. Combination therapy can help further correct damage and reveal healthier, more youthful skin.
